Foot of the Week – Episode 21 – Hiking with Drop Foot

In this week’s blog, we speak to a drop-foot patient who uses the Step-Smart brace to go hiking.

Video Transcript:

Hi, Ian here from Insightful Products for Foot of the Week.

I’m here with Joe Gallant and Joe has been using a Step Smart brace for a couple of years now. And I was pretty impressed Joe, when you were just telling me about the hiking you’re doing.

Yeah, just about a month ago I went up on a hike up Rattlesnake Mountain up in Raymond.

Cool.

It was a moderate trail, pretty rocky and very uneven terrain. A pretty challenging trail for someone with Drop Foot using a brace like this. I did bring my cane along to assist me a little bit but the braces I’ve been in the past there’s no way I wouldn’t of been able to attempt such a thing.

Oh really?
Yup.

So, this one allows you the flexibility to get up the trail.

Yeah, it did real good for me like I said it was very uneven terrain. I did a couple of other trails that were more steep grade but level, it wasn’t uneven terrain and those braces made it very easy to do those.

Well, you’ve certainly beaten it up a little bit here.

Yeah, I’m going to replace it today.

You’re definitely hard on them, it just means you’re active.

Alright so that’s it for Foot of the Week.
