I had spinal fusion surgery in 2015 which left me with bi-lateral foot drop. After nearly 2 years of searching for braces, including a custom pair, which would allow me to resume my fairly active life, I tried the original Step-Smart. Soon I was back in the gym, able to travel again, and could return to a what had been a pretty normal life for my age. I will be 80 later this year. When the first strapless model was introduced, I was intrigued, but unsure that, since I don’t have a “good leg” to depend on, it would work for me. The Step-Smart Pro, with the optional strap design, seemed like the best of both worlds.
I love them! It turns out that somehow, I am comfortable walking without either the I-strap or the calf-strap. As long as I make sure my brace is aligned before starting the engine, I find driving to be no problem. My husband and I are planning a trip this summer which will involve quite a bit of walking, so I plan to take my straps, just in case.
